Champion Clean: How to Get Your Floors Clean

As with any job, there is never just one way to do something. When it comes to flooring, there are almost as many techniques for cleaning the floor as there are flooring materials.

With that being said, here are some of the top ways to get your floors clean:

The Basics — Whether you’ve got tile, carpet, or hardwood floors, one of the first things you will want to do is get up the first level of dirt and dust that has accumulated. For carpeting, this is going to be a basic vacuuming of the floor. For hard surfaces such as tile and wood, make sure to sweep up all of the dust and get it out of the way before doing anything else.

Carpeting — Beyond the basics of vacuuming, you need to really get down into the fibers of the carpet to remove stains. One way to do this is to rent a steam cleaner and do it yourself. Another is to hire a professional carpet cleaning company that can make sure that the stains are properly treated and removed instead of getting ground in.

Hardwood — With hardwood floors, you don’t want to use too much water as this may damage the flooring. Instead, try mopping with a spray bottle of wood cleaner, giving it a good misting as you go. Be sure to use a soft microfiber mop.

Laminate — The good news here is that it’s easier to clean than hardwood. Just spot clean any stains and then mop like you would a normal tile floor. Just be sure not to polish it as this can damage the laminate.

Tile — This is another relatively easy to clean flooring. When mopping, be sure to use a gentle, non-abrasive cleanser. If you try to scour or scrub the tile it may damage it. Besides mopping, you also need to clean out the grout in the flooring. No, you don’t have to try to clean it with a toothbrush as some people will claim. Either rent a steam cleaner or hire someone to professionally clean the grout for you.

When you are cleaning your flooring, the main thing to remember is to use the material to determine your cleaning method. Failure to do so may result in damaged floors and that can cost you big. Another option is to use Champion’s carpet cleaning and tile/grout cleaning and let the professionals handle the job.
