Carpet Care: Do You Use a Carpet Protector?

By: bchauveau Monday September 2, 2019 comments

Often people ask how they can take care of their carpets to ensure they last longer and look better. But that isn’t the only reason why you should consider getting a protector for your carpets.

There are actually financial reasons why you should consider doing this. There are several different protectors that you can use for your carpet, from runners to clear plastic coverings in a work environment, as well as chemical sealants and protectors such as Scotchgard.

But here’s why you should use these carpet protectors:

  1. Money — Let’s appeal to your financial sensibilities first. The use of these protectors can lengthen the lifespan of your carpet. Having to buy a new carpet every few years can be expensive. Instead, you want your carpet to last as long as possible. These protectors can help with that. Additionally, if a carpet becomes full of dirt and other pollutants, then it can cause your carpet padding to rot, which can lead to the sub-flooring deteriorating. If you want to prevent this, use a protector.

  1. Potential Liability — Another area that comes with running a business and having to deal with money is potential liability. If your carpet becomes worn or frayed, it can constitute a tripping hazard. If a customer, client, or even an employee were to fall because of your unprotected, frayed carpet, then you could be held liable in a civil suit.

  1. Allergens and Bacteria — Another area that we don’t think of is that carpets can become breeding grounds for allergens and bacteria. If you have these things in your carpet, you can actually ruin the health of your employees, customers, and yourself. By protecting and cleaning your carpet regularly, you remove these items that can cause allergies and asthma attacks, another potential liability for you.

It is fairly easy to protect your carpets. Your first line of defense should be to clean your carpets regularly, including having a professional deep-cleaning performed. But you should also invest in protectors, such as runners and mats that will keep your carpet looking fresh for years.
