Being a mom is tough and this current pandemic is making it even tougher. What makes it worse at times is that we all want to be a “good mom” but none of us feel like we are doing a good enough job at it. That’s why it’s so important to celebrate the small parenting wins when you can. When you do this, you are reaffirming yourself as a good parent and realizing that there are good things going on in your life, even if it’s just a little victory.

Here's a sampling of victories you should celebrate as a mom:

1. They clean up their room without being told — For many of us with teenagers, we are still waiting for this one to happen. But when it does, you can put a little checkmark next to that “Best Mom Ever” checklist.

2. They sleep through their entire nap (and the night) — It seems that whenever you think to yourself, “I’ll take care of that while the kids are down for their nap,” that’s the time they decide they are too wired for sleep. But when they go down without fighting and then sleep through their nap and the night to boot, then you know that it’s time to celebrate and treat yourself.

3. They go to the bathroom all by themselves — This is another life milestone that you can’t wait to reach. And now, you can settle back and put those horrible diaper days behind you.

4. They let you watch what you want to on TV — Remember those glorious days when you could sit down on the couch and binge-marathon an entire season of Breaking Bad or Game of Thrones? Now, you are lucky if your viewing time isn’t taken with talking aquatic sponges or singing animals. So, when you get a chance to watch something that you want to watch, relish in that. It won’t come around often.

When you’re a super-busy parent, you have to take your wins when you can get them. These are four of those milestone moments that most people will simply think happens magically, but we know really takes a lot of work.
